E-court for commercial matters and intellectual property

Indonesia has introduced new rules to make it easier for people to protect their intellectual property. The Commercial Court of the District Court of Central Jakarta has issued a Decree No. W10-U1/05/KP.00.3/I/2023, which says that people must now register online with the court to enforce their intellectual property rights. This new system, called e-court, will take effect on January 24, 2023, and covers disputes related to commercial matters and intellectual property. With e-court, people can register their cases online, make payments electronically, receive electronic summons, and carry out legal proceedings through the internet. However, people can still go to court in person if they prefer. This new decree is in response to Supreme Court Regulation (“PERMA”) Number 1 of 2019, which outlines how e-court systems should be used in court proceedings.
